TikTok woman explains why Bristolians 'have the worst accent' in UK

Local accents have the Marmite effect on people - you either love or hate them. The “Brummie monotone” often tops lists for being the least attractive, while Scouse and Mancunian can really divide people's opinions.

But one TikTok star recently picked Bristol's accent as being the worst in the UK, and she went on to explain why. TikTok user @thatguycian asked the woman where in the UK has the worst accent, to which she replied: "Bristol.

"I know it sounds bad because I'm from Bristol but I don't like the accent." Then he asked her what's bad about it, and she said: "It's the rrrr, everything is like rrrr."

He said: "They sound like a bit of a farmer." She agreed that 'everyone in Bristol' sounded a like a farmer. But according to a YouGov poll, lots of cities come ahead of Bristol when it comes to bad accents.

And there are plenty of celebrities making Bristolians proud of their accent, like Josie Gibson who reduced a guest to tears of joy on This Morning when he heard her familiar accent. Somerset actor James Purefoy said at the time: "I don't think you hear a West Country accent [on TV] very often and when you do, they're often stereotypical and they're not the ones you want to be associated with. So, when you hear it just as a part of a normal day on television, it's really nice to hear it."

Love Island presenter Maya Jama has also recently flaunted her 'lost' Bristol accent, filming herself on TikTok saying: "Brizzers! If you don'ts understand what I'm saying in that last snap, I ain't for you!"

YouGov shared a poll that found the Birmingham accent to be the least attractive, and the “Southern Irish” accent to be the most appealing. The Scouse, Mancunian, Cockney, and Glaswegian accents ranked low on the list, while received pronunciation, Welsh, Yorkshire, West Country, and Geordie accents placed highly.
