A woman on TikTok revealed the unusual way she found out her partner was cheating after an Alexa speaker recorded conversations of her unfaithful lover in the act. Jessica Lowman said she had no idea her Amazon Alexa speaker had such a function until she did some investigating and uncovered more than she bargained for, the Mirror reports.
The popular smart speakers that are voiced by Amazon assistant, Alexa, are a common household device, popular for their high tech voice control characteristics and quality sound system. However, is it not widely known that these clever devices are also able to sneakily pick up and record sound, which was how Jessica discovered key evidence that her partner was being unfaithful.
The woman took to TikTok to discuss her surprise discovery and shared some clips recorded by her Alexa device. Jessica's video details a screen recording of her Alexa account, where individual clips can be played of sounds that the device has picked up.
People on TikTok have been left gobsmacked at the findings, as a mysterious woman is heard shouting at the smart speaker, alongside Jessica's now ex-boyfriend. The woman captioned the clip "So this is how I caught my ex cheating I didn't even know Alexa stored this shizzz".
In a bid to help other partners who have a hunch that their lover might be having an affair, Jessica added the words "one for the girls" onto the video. The app shows numerous recordings under the 'voice history' section. In the first one Jessica shares, a woman is heard saying "Alexa what do you do then? Play Power Trip by Miguel".
The clip seems to insinuate that the stranger doesn't know how to use the device, and then asks it to play a song. The next recording shows Jessica's boyfriend asking Alexa to turn the sound to 'volume eight', therefore blowing his cover as the woman was in his home with him alone.
The video has since gone viral, amassing a whopping 2.6 million views, as other women are stunned by the Alexa function and have even joked that they are going to try it on their boyfriends. Many people joked that Alexa is helping women out with this function, as one said "Girl code alexa" and another added "BOOOM ALEXA REALLY DOING FAVOUR’s".
Others jibed that they are going to buy their partners a smart speaker after seeing the hack, with one TikToker saying "Thank you now I know to buy him an Alexa for Christmas". One woman even revealed that she also used her Alexa app to catch her partner cheating, as she wrote: "That's the exact same way i found out too! Listened in on a full date night!".
