TikTok is to create 1,000 new jobs in Ireland.
CEO Shou Zi Chew broke the jobs news at a meeting on Friday with IDA Ireland representatives and Taoiseach Michéal Martin. This in addition to the 2,000 people already employed by the social media giant here.
Today’s announcement by TikTok follows its previously revealed plans to open a European data center in Dublin next year. Plans to build the data center were initially announced in 2020, pricing it at €420m to be completed in early 2022.

The rapidly growing platform already has a number of it's European teams based in Dublin, including a transparency and accountability centre.
“News of these additional jobs, adding to its already substantial headcount, underscores the strategic importance of Ireland in TikTok’s global operations, with its Dublin site now base for a number of the company’s critical functions," said IDA CEO, Martin Shanahan.
Hiring for these new positions is reported to begin immediately.
“TikTok’s latest expansion further embeds Ireland as an important hub for its European and Global operations, and is clear evidence of its commitment to this country,” said Micheál Martin after the meeting.
“The substantial number of additional, highly skilled jobs being created is testament to the strength of Ireland’s offering, which includes a strong talent base and collaborative ecosystem.”
The news was also welcomed by Tánaiste Leo Varadkar.
“TikTok's growth since coming to Ireland has been truly incredible,” he said.
“At the start of 2022, TikTok had over 2,000 employees in Ireland, and the addition of another 1,000 this year really underlines the company’s commitment to Ireland, our people and the environment we have worked hard to create here.”
The Chinese social media giant has had a presence in Dublin in 2019.
Earlier this week, the company announced plans to improve user well-being by allowing them to set screentime limits.
