If you've ever worn a turtleneck you'll know it can be a bit of a faff to get the neck to sit right. Often you'll find yourself fiddling or refolding it, or like me just giving into whatever it wants to do.
Well it turns out there could be a simple reason for our troubles. According to one fashion TikToker, many of us have been doing it wrong this entire time.
In a sarcastic video posted to TikTok, Mary Orton claims people are probably wearing turtlenecks wrong and shared a “life-saving turtleneck tip” to help those struggling.

In her video, which has over 2.9m views, she joked “I hate to be the one to have to tell you this, but you’re probably wearing turtlenecks wrong."
She previously shared her turtleneck tip two years ago in a video that went viral and decided to create an updated version.
Most people tend to fold their turtlenecks outward, however the New York based fashion blogger suggests rolling the neck inside instead.
“This makes for a much cleaner neckline and also a cleaner canvas if you want to layer necklaces."
She added that turning the neck outward can often give it a “warbled edge” and that turning it inside made it “look more expensive.”
The TikToker said turning the neck in gives you “the flexibility of only tucking it in only a little bit if you want the neckline to land really high on your neck or you can tuck it really low even doubling it inside so that it’s more of a mock neck.”
Those that wish to continue wearing their turtleneck outward, Mary says “Are you gonna die? It’s hard to say, I’m not a doctor, but I hope and believe that we saved some lives today.”
The comment section was flooded with people agreeing with the TikToker and some people wondering why they never tried it this way.
One person commented on the video saying Mary’s turtleneck way is “so much more sophisticated and classic. Teamed with a blazer looks so much more aesthetically appealing to the eye.”
Commenter Cindy said “At 62, I feel my life has been saved just in the nick of time…or is that the “neck” of time!” while another user sarcastically said “Wow thank you. This is amazing. My life is changed.”
