TikTok doctor shares morning hack you need to do every day as clocks go forward

A doctor has taken to TikTok to advise people what they should be doing each morning.

Dr Karan Rajan, a surgeon and educator at Imperial College London & Sunderland University, uses his platform to give health tips and bust myths.

As the clocks go forward, we're finally able to enjoy longer days and sunshine and to make the most of it, Dr Rajan says we must all do one thing every morning.

Titled, Do this every day without fail, the NHS Dr urged everyone to go outside to regulate their body clock.

Speaking from outside, he asked: "When you wake up in the morning, do you wake up your body clock as well?"

He explained: "The best way to regulate your circadian clock so your energy, focus, physical and mental health is as optimised as they can be, is to receive as much sunlight as possible as soon as you wake up or as close to that time as possible.

"The best way to do this is by going outside or looking through a window, even if you live in a country that has miserable weather and overcast days like the UK.

"Even just going a few days with poor sunlight exposure can cause some pretty major biological disruptions to several body systems.

"From adrenaline, cortisol and serotonin production to vitamin D synthesis to sleep-wake cycles and all of these can have major physical and mental health consequences.

"So unless you live underground or in a cave, you should be doing this. Get some sunlight first thing in the morning."
