LUCKNOW: A nine-year-old tigress which killed five people in Manjhra Purab forest of Dudhwa buffer zone over the past 40 days was brought to Lucknow zoo on Saturday.
The animal was captured on the night of June 29 and kept under observation in Katarniaghat Tiger Reserve.
During observation in captivity, veterinary doctors estimated the age of the animal to be around nine years. They also found the left canines of the tigress broken and worn out. This indicates its inability to hunt natural prey in the wild. As a result, it was forced to attack humans.
Experts concluded the tigress was fit to be released back into the forests. The shifting to Lucknow was carried out at night as big cats are nocturnal animals.
“In zoo, the tigress is in quarantine under the supervision of veterinarians and keepers,” said director Ashok Kumar.
