Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy join forces on the course in star-studded exhibition match

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy will once again join forces when they take on PGA Tour rivals Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth in the latest addition of Capital One's 'The Match' series.

The star-studded foursome will take to the course on December 10, and compete in pairs in the charity event. The match will take place at Pelican Golf Club in Florida, and will raise funds for those effected by Hurricane Ian, which swept across the state last month.

Announcing the event on social media, Woods tweeted: "Can’t wait to play in Capital One’s: The Match with @McIlroyRory against @JustinThomas34 and @JordanSpieth to raise money for Hurricane Ian relief. See you boys under the lights on December 10th.

2015 Masters champion Spieth also took to Twitter, writing: "Ready to go again @JustinThomas34? @McIlroyRory @TigerWoods - see y’all next month, under the lights! Excited to compete with these guys and raise money for hurricane relief.

Whilst McIlroy, Thomas and Spieth are all making their debut in the series, Woods has appeared twice before including in its first ever event when he took on old rival Phil Mickelson in match play. The duo then faced off two years later, and were this time joined by NFL stars Peyton Manning and Tom Brady.

Despite it being their first time competing in the charity match play event, Spieth and Thomas are no strangers to teaming up together. The PGA Tour stars formed a formidable partnership during Team USA's record breaking win over Europe at last year's Ryder Cup, as well as at this year's Presidents Cup.

Woods and McIlroy partnership however has formed off the golf course, after they announced the formation of TMRW Sports, and TGL, an innovative golf league founded in partnership with the PGA Tour amid the sport's ongoing civil war surrounding the American-based circuit and LIV Golf.

The two golfing stars have played an integral part in the Tour's battle with LIV, having attended a PGA player meeting in Delaware amid the threat of its rival series.

As well as this, the pair also confirmed the announcement of its innovative league, which will see some of the PGA Tour's biggest names compete virtually against each other in front of a live stadium audience from January 2024. And Woods and McIlroy are not the only big sporting names to be involved with TMRW.

As a result, last week the company announced a list of star-studded sporting investors which included the likes of Serena Williams, Lewis Hamilton, Gareth Bale and Andy Murray.
