Tickford boss Edwards to depart Supercars team

Days after unleashing an angry and explosive denial, Tickford Racing's long-time boss Tim Edwards has been confirmed to be leaving the Ford team.

In his role since 2005, Edwards, the chief executive officer and team principal, will depart Tickford at season's end as the major changes continue at the Melbourne-based outfit.

Edwards' departure comes after Tickford last month confirmed it would cut back from four to two cars in next year's Supercars championship.

Tickford Racing co-owner and managing director Rod Nash thanked Edwards for his long contribution as the team embarks on a "new era of leadership".

"Tim has been one of the driving forces behind Tickford Racing for almost 20 years," Nash said.

"His contribution to not only the team's development but to the wider Supercars network cannot be understated."

On Sunday, Edwards vigorously denied he was leaving Tickford in an extraordinary tirade during the Sandown 500.

"Someone suggested about two weeks ago, 'You'd be good at the Motorsport Australia job," he told Speedcafe.

"By the time it's f***ing arrived back in this pit lane, f***ing you peanuts think I've got the f***ing job there.

"Seriously, do not write it. I am not f***ing going to run a GT team. I don't know who the f*** started all this f***ing bollocks.

"F***ing GT team? What the f***? I went to Suzuka for Tickford, about a month ago, because we're looking at whether we should have an involvement in SRO Asian GT, which has already been publicised."

Tickford's announcement came on the same day Supercars locked in the dates for the category's return to New Zealand next year.

A sprint round will be held at Taupo from April 19-21.

It will be the 21st Supercars round held in New Zealand with the final race at Pukekohe Park taking place last year.
