Tickets flying out for Santa's grotto inside the cockpit of a British Airways Boeing 747

Children have the chance to meet Santa on board an actual plane thanks to a new experience that's opened in Greater Manchester.

Deck the Halls Santa's 747 Experience has opened at City Airport in Barton, which is now home to the top deck of a decommissioned British Airways plane.

We reported earlier this year how the Boeing 747 travelled 150 miles to Salford - on the back of a lorry - after being transported from Kemble, on the edge of the Cotswolds.

Children can meet Santa inside the cockpit (Deck the Halls Santa's 747 Experience)

Airline memorabilia company Doors2Manual has opened it up as The Deck, offering a range of on board experiences including the chance to try out the UK's only public 747 flight simulator using a real aircraft flight deck.

The latest event attracting visitors from far and wide is the Santa experience, giving little ones the chance to meet the man himself and his elves - and tickets have already been flying out.

The experience involves Christmas games and songs inside the hangar, and the chance for little ones to write a letter to Santa, before using their boarding pass to climb on board and meet the man himself inside the cockpit.

Those all important photos can be taken inside the flight deck with Santa and Mrs Claus while children receive their gift.

Sessions are running on Thursday evenings, as well as at weekends. Tickets cost £27.95 per child, which includes access for one adult. Additional adult hangar access tickets £5 each depending on availability.

The experience lasts around an hour and children each get a present to take home.

Tickets have been selling fast but new slots have been added today, Tuesday. You can book online on the website here.

The flight simulator can be booked for anyone aged 10 plus (Deck the Halls Santa's 747 Experience)

Flight simulation experiences start from £44.95 and the minimum age for flying is 10. Children aged 7 and over can accompany others in the cockpit, but must sit in one of the rear seats. Gift vouchers are available for the various flight experiences on offer.
