Ticket examiner of NR Lucknow division breaks SR Chennai division's record of ticketless penalty

LUCKNOW: A fortnight after Chennai division of southern railways (SR) zone claimed that one of their tickets checking staff collected Rs 1.55 crore, highest ever penalty from without ticket passengers in the financial year 2022-23, the Northern railways (NR) Lucknow division on Friday announced that chief ticket inspector (CTI) of Varanasi junction has surpassed the record and collected Rs 1.60 crore till February.

The CTI was identified as Mahesh Kumar Yadav who penalized 19,990 ticketless passengers between 1 April 2022 to February 23, 2023 and collected Rs 1,60,45,120.

He surpassed deputy CTI Nandakumar of Chennai, Southern Railways who collected Rs 1.55 Cr from 27,787 passengers. SR on March 18, 2023 had claimed that Nandakumar achieved the highest ever earnings all over Indian Railways.

Joining Mahesh in 'One crore club' from Varanasi junction were STI Shyam Bihari Yadav who collected Rs 1.31 crore from 17,324 ticketless passengers, TTI Jitender Kumar who collected Rs 1.03 crore from 12,815 ticketless passengers and CTI from Lucknow (Charbagh railway station) P K Bhasin, who collected Rs 1 crore from 12,394 ticketless passengers in the same period.

In total, the Lucknow division of NR collected Rs 62.94 crore in the 2022-23 financial year, which was 46.20 % more than the set target.
