Man found guilty of murdering Renee MacRae and her three-year-old son 46 years ago

A man has been found guilty of murdering Renee MacRae and her three-year-old son, more than 45 years ago.

William MacDowell, 80, was found guilty by a jury at the High Court in Inverness today.

He was also found guilty of attempting to defeat the ends of justice by disposing of their bodies and personal effects.

The court had heard how Renee, who was separated from her husband, had been having an affair with married MacDowell at the time she and Andrew disappeared.

Queen's cause of death confirmed as officials release certificate

The Queen died of old age, her death certificate today has revealed. National Records of Scotland published an extract from Her Majesty The Queen’s entry in the Register of Deaths this afternoon.

It states Queen Elizabeth II died of old age at 3.10pm on Thursday, September, 8 at Balmoral Castle in Ballater, Aberdeenshire. The official document has been signed by her daughter, The Princess Royal.

The Registrar General for Scotland, Paul Lowe, confirmed that Her Majesty’s death was registered in the village in Aberdeenshire.

Scots garage at centre of massive car scam after cyber crooks used their address

A small garage in Fife unwittingly found itself at the heart of a UK-wide car scam after cyber criminals used its address to con victims.

Bonnygate Garage have dealt with around 100 people turning up at their Cupar base looking for vehicles they bought online.

Boss Harry Cairney told how the garage received five calls a day since March from car buyers caught up in the massive fraud.

Criminals set up a fake website that month called Auto Promotions to supposedly sell cars over the internet at bargain prices.

Liz Truss has insisted her government's tax-cutting measures are the "right plan" in the face of rising energy bills and to get the economy growing despite market turmoil sparked by the Chancellor's mini-budget.

In her first public comments since the mini-budget market chaos, Truss defended Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng 's measures, insisting "urgent action" was needed, although she admitted the Government's decisions have been "controversial".

During a round of BBC local radio interviews this morning the PM was challenged on a number of issues from fracking to the cost-of-living crisis. It was the first time she had addressed concerns about the economy for four days following the fiscal statement in the House of Commons.

Scotland's best fish and chip shops named at top awards

Scotland's best chippies from across the country have been named at a top awards show. The Food Awards Scotland has picked out this year's winners from four regions around Scotland as well as crowning the overall winner.

The awards team said that all of the finalists and winners have helped "shape and build Scotland’s reputation of food".

The winners of the Scottish Food Awards were announced at a black-tie ceremony at the Glasgow Marriott Hotel on September 26.

The awards said the winners are a true reflection of high standards and customer service and are chosen by members of the general public.
