A thunderstorm is set to hit Edinburgh this weekend, as forecasters predicts heavy showers and moderate winds for the capital.
Meteorologists at the BBC have predicted that the capital will experience thunder and lightning on Sunday, September 4 and again on Tuesday, September 6. Thundery showers and a moderate breeze are predicted for both days, with the storm beginning at 4pm on the Sunday.
The thunder and lightning will continue until 7pm on Sunday evening, and the rain will follow on throughout the night and well into the next day. The storm will return on Tuesday at 7pm, and tail off by 10pm that same evening.

During a thunderstorm, people are warned to follow the dos and don'ts of keeping safe throughout the severe weather, which are as follows:
- Avoid open vehicles such as convertibles, motorcycles, and golf carts
- Be sure to avoid open structures such as porches, gazebos and sports arenas
- Stay away from open spaces such as golf courses, playgrounds, parks and open water
- Don't use corded phones
- Go indoors
- If outside, separate from others and look for shelter immediately

Today will start rather cloudy, with the odd light shower possible. During the afternoon, cloud will tend to break and clear, giving way to sunshine. An isolated shower may linger, however.
Tonight's forecast
Tonight may see the chance of an isolated shower early, but these will soon ease, leaving plenty of clear skies and just some patchy clouds. Winds will be light.
Tomorrow's forecast
Tomorrow will see sunny spells and some patchy cloud in the morning, but sunshine will become increasingly widespread in the afternoon. Winds will remain light.
Outlook for Thursday to Saturday
Thursday will see a mix of patchy cloud, sunny spells and just the occasional light shower. Friday looks to be a similar day, with variable cloud and isolated showers, but it will turn increasingly breezy with a chance of some rain reaching in from the west.
Saturday is expected to be breezy and unsettled, with outbreaks of rain in places.
