Thugs break into nan's home as she lies in hospital bed

A woman said she was "disgusted" after thugs raided her nan's home while she was in hospital.

Last week Sophie Jones was shocked to find her nan's home had been targeted by thieves while she lay in a hospital bed. Sophie said she was "disgusted" when she arrived at June Jones' home in Woodchurch to find the door had been forced open and a safe containing the 69-year-old's most treasured possessions - including a necklace belonging to her late husband - had been taken.

Sophie told the ECHO: "It happened between last Thursday and Friday night. She's been in hospital for five weeks now and when we went over on Friday morning we noticed that her back door was open.

"It shouldn't have been because we'd locked it all up. So we went up to the bedroom and the locks were smashed, and they'd gone into her bedroom and into her drawers where her jewellery was kept and then into her cupboards where the safe was kept and they took it all.

"She's poorly at the minute she has kidney failure and liver cirrhosis. She's got fluid in her lungs at the moment that's why they're keeping her in. It was her jewellery and family heirlooms. There was a gold chain with a cross on which was my grandad's, he passed away a few years ago.

"It's just disgusting. The whole family is shocked and disgusted. The whole community is shocked by it in fact."

The Jones family are still looking for answers and are desperate to see the stolen heirlooms and valuables returned. They have even offered a reward to anyone who comes forward with any information that could help.

Detective inspector Emma Kerrigan, of Merseyside Police, said: "We are still working to establish what was stolen but such offences cause significant distress and inconvenience to victims and in the wider community.

"If you saw, heard or captured anything suspicious in the Hoole Road area around these days, come forward. Your information, CCTV or doorbell footage could be vital in finding those responsible, or identifying how they transported a heavy safe from the area."

"Likewise, if you have seen or been offered jewellery in recent days, online or in person, do the right thing and let us know, so we can reunite these items with their rightful owner. Monetary value aside, the sentimental value of jewellery simply cannot be measured."
