A thug who fractured a man’s face after catching him with his lover was jailed for 27 months.
Stephen Mitchell, 49, struck Darren Welsh at his home in Glasgow’s Partick on November 6, 2021.
An enraged Mitchell lashed out after finding the victim at the property with his partner Michelle Wales.
A bleeding Mr Welsh later drifted in and out of consciousness and suffered a head wound.
Mitchell pled guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to assaulting Mr Welsh to his severe injury.
He also admitted breaching his 7pm to 7am bail curfew.
The court heard Mr Welsh and Miss Wales met while on a night out in Glasgow city centre.
The pair went back to Miss Wales home which she shares with partner of seven years - Mitchell.
He came home after a separate night out at 10pm and found the pair in the property.
Mitchell said: “What are you doing here, that’s my partner, get out.”
Welsh said he would leave as Mitchell picked up the hammer.
Prosecutor Sarah Latta said: “Mitchell struck Mr Welsh once on the back left side of the head.
“This resulted in heavy bleeding and he staggered out.”
Mr Welsh fled to a neighbour’s property while “drifting in and out of consciousness.”
Mitchell and Miss Wales fled the scene as police arrived.
Officers recovered the hammer after forcing entry to the property as the victim was taken to hospital.
Miss Latta added: “Mr Welsh was found with a wound to the back left side of the head and a facial fracture.”
Mitchell and Miss Wales later returned home before he was arrested.
Douglas McAllister, defending, told the court: “Mr Mitchell saw the two of them there and this angered him.
“Mr Mitchell told him to locate his things but the victim initially refused to do so, argued and fought.”
Sheriff Iain Fleming told Mitchell that he should not have taken the law into his own hands.
