Thug stabs man to death as he speaks to brother on FaceTime in random attack

A thug stabbed a man to death while he was on FaceTime to his brother in a random attack.

Sergio Santay was knifed in the neck in broad daylight in the "random and unprovoked attack" in downtown Los Angeles, US, last Friday.

The 34-year-old had been chatting with his sibling Douglas about his weekend plans at the time.

The suspect also attacked two other people after approaching Sergio on Bonnie Brae Street.

Police then launched a manhunt for the "armed and dangerous thug".

However, as yet, no arrests have been made.

CCTV captured the alleged attacker walking down the pavement before suddenly lunging at his unsuspecting victim.

The LAPD has released a CCTV image of the suspect (LAPD)

Sergio was unarmed at the time he was stabbed.

He was rushed to hospital but was later pronounced dead.

The other two victims are said to be recovering.

Sergio's mum told Fox 11 she couldn't understand what the motivation was for the attack.

The LAPD described the suspect as having been wearing a black fisherman's hat which was covered in marijuana leaves, as well as a blue shirt and light shorts.

Sergio's family are hoping to raise enough money so he can be buried back in Guatemala (FOX)

Douglas set up a GoFundMe page that has since raised more than $5,000 (£3,800).

He said his family's wish is to send Sergio's body back to their homeland of Guatemala, Central America, for burial.

The crowdfunder said: "Hello, my name is Douglas Santay; born in Guatemala and I live in Los Angeles California US.

"I join this platform in order to raise funds for funeral expenses for my brother Sergio Santay who was murdered on 08/04/22 in Los Angeles, California.

"I do not have the necessary financial resources and my wish together with my family is to send his remains to our country Guatemala.

"Hoping to count on your help in advance thank you very much and may God bless and multiply you."
