Thug dragged 'petrified' partner along street during horrific attack in Strelley

A woman was "petrified" after a horrific attack at the hands of her partner, a court heard. Troy Bukenya, 23, of no fixed address, launched a prolonged assault after tracking her down to The Rose Inn, Strelley.

He began by pushing a man she was speaking with, Nottingham Crown Court heard. The victim pushed Bukenya away to the corner to prevent a fight but he grabbed her and bit her on the cheek, which bled.

Someone chucked a drink over Bukenya and told him to leave. But he continued the attack outside - dragging the defenceless woman to the floor and headbutting her, telling she was stupid and "to get up".

As she was dragged down the road and assaulted, he told her to "stop acting stupid and crying" every time a car went past. "She described herself as 'petrified' as a result", said Judge Mark Watson, who jailed Bukenya on Thursday (September 1).

When the now ex-couple reached Asda, the defendant got angry again, getting hold of her and forcing her into a taxi. He kicked her in the leg at least five times and grabbed her coat and spat at her.

"It is no wonder she was terrified of you, and was found in hospital in a distraught and distressed state," said the judge. The case did not end there after the victim's mother gave a witness statement in support of her daughter regarding the assault allegation.

Whilst awaiting trial, Bukenya telephoned the mother and made repeated threats to her - that she should move away, that he would "smash her to bits", her husband's belly would be opened up, and asked her if she preferred her son or him in prison.

Her victim impact statement revealed she was scared of Bukenya, fearful for her family and wanted them protected from him. Bukenya, who has previous for robbery, battery and assault, admitted assault, causing bodily harm to his former partner, interference with a witness, and theft of £100 from a man outside Coop, Hucknall, on November 11, 2020.

He also breached a suspended prison sentence, which was factored in when he was sentenced, bringing his total term to three years and five months in custody, with a requirement to serve at least half. A restraining order was handed down indefinitely to protect his ex-partner and her mum.
