'Thrilled' Scott Mills says he's 'so lucky' as he opens first BBC Radio 2 show

DJ Scott Mills has admitted he's "so lucky" as he opened his first BBC Radio 2 show this afternoon, shortly after moving from BBC Radio 1.

The 49-year-old is taking over Steve Wright's early afternoon slot after Steve, 68, stepped back from the slot. Steve still has a Sunday morning radio show on the station.

Opening his new show, he said: "I’m so excited. This is Scott Mills and this is my brand new weekday afternoon show."

Scott then opened his first show with Lady Gaga's Bad Romance. As the song ended he said: "I thought we’d start with one of the best pop songs of the last 15 years…

"So this is the new sound of afternoons on BBC Radio 2. It's me 2 'til 4.

"I'm thrilled to be here," he added before introducing LeAnn Rimes' song Can't Fight The Moonlight.

Ahead of his debut appearance, Scott received a warm welcome his Radio 2 colleague Zoe Ball, who was seen giving the DJ a warm embrace in one picture alongside another photo of the pair posing together at the studio.
