Three transfer alternatives to Donny van de Beek for Newcastle United to target

Donny van de Beek rejected a move to Newcastle United earlier this month according to reports, with the Magpies yet to add to the signatures of Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood.

Based on the rumours surrounding Van De Beek, the Toon are seemingly interested in adding an attacking midfield to their ranks, with the Dutchman knows for his off-the-ball movements, his link play and his ability to score goals by arriving late.

If Eddie Howe wishes to add a player with a similar skill set to Van De Beek, who could he target this month?

Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspur)

Dele Alli has experienced a fall from grace at Tottenham Hotspur, having once been regarded as the next star of English football during his time under Mauricio Pochettino.

Still just 25 years old, the English midfielder - who is also homegrown - has bags of potential and ability attached to his game, but he's fallen out of favour at Spurs and no longer starts matches in the capital.

Antonio Conte seems to favour others ahead of him, and considering what he's capable of offering on the pitch, he's very much in the mould of Van De Beek once considering his movement and tendency to thrive when fielded behind a true striker.

For a reduced price or even a six-month loan deal, Dele could be worth considering.

Florian Neuhaus (Borussia Monchengladbach)

Florian Neuhaus is a different type of player to Van De Beek, but he's an intelligent midfielder and his ability to score goals from the middle of the park appears vaguely comparable to the Red Devils man.

Linked with a move to Liverpool last summer, Neuhaus is 24 years old and rarely misses matches due to injury. In each of the past three Bundesliga campaigns, he's featured in at least 30 matches for Borussia Monchengladbach.

The German international is typically deployed as a central midfielder rather than a no.10, but he's scored 17 non-penalty goals in three-and-a-half Bundesliga seasons for Gladbach, while also registering 15 assists.

He could be difficult to acquire but this summer, he'll have two years left on his contract. The Magpies could get him, although he could be expensive this month.

Jesse Lingard (Manchester United)

An alternative option to Van De Beek from Old Trafford is Jesse Lingard, who is notably older but offers similar perks when he's on the field, as shown during his time at West Ham United last season.

Now aged 29, Lingard is an experienced Premier League performer and he would be able to contribute immediately. He's quick, energetic, and capable of providing a threat as an advanced midfielder.

Last season, David Moyes loaned Lingard for six months and during that period, he scored eight non-penalty goals while registering four assists. His movement and willingness to run is valuable, and he could be easily attainable considering his contract is due to expire at the end of the season.
