Three things we spotted at Rangers training as Todd Cantwell sparks debut hype with injured star back

Rangers are preparing for a home return to league action with St Johnstone and all eyes could be on one man.

Michael Beale's men still trail rivals Celtic by nine points but sealed back-to-back progression to the Viaplay Cup final and Scottish Cup fifth round respectively in recent weeks while maintaining an unbeaten run. The task of struggling Saints will be a welcome return to Ibrox with Callum Davidson's men unable to win any of their last five games with straight defeats.

Beale has more options now with the recruitment of Todd Cantwell who penned a long-term deal from Norwich City this week as the Englishman's first acquisition. And Rangers fans will be hoping the 24-year-old hits the ground running as Glasgow Live Sport took a peek at Auchenhowie's preparation for the weekend.

Time for Todd

Todd Cantwell is the name on everyone's lips and Rangers fans will be refreshing their Twitter feeds constantly come Saturday afternoon.

Whether or not the midfielder will be thrown in from the start is another question, but the youngster has got started at training sessions with his new team.

The Englishman hasn't kicked a ball since the tail end of last year and self-admitted his match fitness wasn't at full speed. He said: "My fitness is good, I have been working hard even without the game time. I will take a little bit to get up to match speed but I am in a good place."

Hagi ramps up recovery

It will be another welcome sight for Rangers fans to see long-crocked Ianis Hagi back in the fold.

The Romanian winger has had a torrid 2022 with an injury sustained earlier in the year in the Scottish Cup effectively ruling him out for the second half of last season and much of this campaign.

But the 24-year-old has been documenting his recovery on social media and Beale admitted recently that Hagi still has a major role to play within his side. Rangers have been somewhat short of reliable cover on the wings, with Ryan Kent pulling his weight at left wing but Fashion Sakala becoming a makeshift right sided man - to great effect.

Morelos in Milan or Milngavie?

In the sweepstake of Alfredo Morelos transfer rumours many would not have touted Serie A giants Inter Milan.

And while reports suggesting the Rangers striker could be off to Italy are by no means confirmed, the future of the Colombian remains under question with no new contract signed.

Yet the 26-year-old seems to be returning to some level of form and with Antonio Colak vying for a spot and only a few days left in the transfer window it doesn't appear that Morelos will be swapping Milngavie for Milan.
