Three things we learned as Hibs throw relentless attacking barrage at Kilmarnock in tight win

Hibs threw plenty of attacking force against a 10-man Kilmarnock side in their latest Premiership match as they earned a 1-0 win.

The Hibees were without manager Lee Johnson who had emergency gallbladder surgery earlier in the week but soon were handed an early boost. Ash Taylor clattered into a challenge with Martin Boyle and was quickly given his marching orders by John Beaton, leaving Killie to play with 10 men for most of proceedings.

Rugby Park boss Derek McInnes suffered a double blow from that incident as from the resulting free-kick that cannoned off the wall, Joe Newell slotted home an effort to hand Hibs the advantage. It was far from plain sailing though against a side who had dumped city rivals Hearts out the League Cup earlier in the week, but Hibs did enough to claim a first win since the opening day. Here are three things we learned.

McKirdy arrives

Despite signing in the early hours of Friday morning, Harry McKirdy was rushed through and fielded into battle against Killie.

It's probably an indicator of how much he'll be used after arriving off the back of scoring double figures at Swindon last season

Confidence boost

It was a frustrating day in front of goal for Hibs who had several chances to make their day a lot more comfortable.

Elie Youan missed several and Momodou Bojang somehow missed despite being clean through on goal, not testing Sam Walker in goals. You get the feeling a goal in the forward line would help more flow.

Newell wins applause

It was Newell who won Man of the Match for his performance and that'll be nice to hear for the midfielder.

He's had his critics during what has been an up and down 12 months for his team but his goal was well taken and he got a warm reception when coming off from the Hibs support.
