Three people have been rushed to hospital after a head-on crash this morning. Emergency crews raced to Edinburgh Road in Mussleburgh, East Lothian, shortly before 10am today, following a two-car smash.
Two men, the drivers, and a female passenger were rushed to hospital. Their conditions are not yet known.
Cops locked down the road between Newhailes Road and Newhailes Avenue. An image from the scene shows the two motors still wedged together with debris lying across the road.
The front ends of both cars appear to have suffered considerable damage from the head-on crash, with bonnets bent badly out of shape and the air bag deployed in one of the cars.
Edinburgh Travel News alerted East Lothian drivers earlier on Twitter and warned of diversions.
They posted: "Musselburgh - Edinburgh Road closed both ways at the Shell Garage due to an RTC (between Newhailes Avenue and Newhailes Road).
"Emergency services are in attendance. Traffic being diverted. It's slow westbound from Lochend Road."
Several Lothian Buses services were also diverted due to the road being closed.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Officers attended a two vehicle crash on Edinburgh Road, Newhailes, Musselburgh at 9.50am on Tuesday, December 21, 2022. Two male drivers and a female passenger were taken to hospital and the road has re-opened.”
