Three products being pulled from the shelves by Tesco, Lidl and Home Bargains due to health risk

Three products have been recalled by shops due to safety concerns.

In recent days, Tesco, Lidl and Home Bargains have all pulled items from their shelves amid safety fears.

Liverpool Echo reports how customers are being urged not to eat them if they have purchased them. Instead, they should return them to the store for a full refund.

When a product is recalled, for any reason, the Food Safety Agency (FSA) shares details on what you should do if you have bought the item, as well as detailed information on why the product is potentially hazardous.

Both the FSA and Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) issues recalls for a variety of reasons.These include when a food product contains allergens that are not disclosed or the item is defective.

No receipt is necessary when returning the item.

Here is a list of some recent items being withdrawn from supermarkets and the reasons why:

Tesco

Tesco free from snacks (FSA)

Tesco is recalling:

  • Tesco Free From Onion Rings
  • Tesco Free From Cheese Flavour Balls
  • Tesco Free From Bacon Rashers

They are being recalled as they contain gluten, which is not mentioned on the label.

This means the products are a possible health risk for anyone with coeliac disease, and/or an allergy or intolerance to gluten.

The risk statement outlined by Tesco, reads: "This product contains gluten making it a possible health risk for anyone with coeliac disease, and/or an allergy or intolerance to gluten."

Tesco Free From Onion Rings product details are: 150g pack size and best before 16 December, 2023.

Tesco Free From Cheese Flavour Balls product details are: 150g pack size and best before 16 December, 2023.

And Tesco Free From Bacon Rashers: 150g pack size and best before 16 December, 2023.

Lidl

Snaktastic Tortilla Chips - Chilli Heatwave (FSA)

Lidl GB is recalling Snaktastic Chilli Heatwave Tortilla Chips because they may contain milk which is not mentioned on the label. Because of a mis-pack, the pack may contain Tangy Cheese flavour Tortilla Chips.

This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.

The risk statement reads: "This product may contain milk making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents."

Product details are as follows: product code T4B 3142, pack side 200g, batch code T4B 3142, best before October 22, 2023.

Home Bargains

Sci-mx Ultra Muscle Strawberry Flavour (FSA)

Home Bargains is recalling Sci-Mx Nutrition Ultra Muscle Strawberry Flavour because high levels of caffeine have been found in the product. This makes the product unsafe to consume.

The risk statement reads: "Too much caffeine can produce anxiety, sleeplessness, agitation, palpitations, diarrhoea and restlessness.

"Individuals with a mental health condition caffeine can experience worsened psychosis and result in the need for higher amounts of medication. Caffeine can reduce how well your antipsychotic medications work.

"Children, or other people sensitive to caffeine, should only consume caffeine in moderation. Pregnant and breast-feeding women are advised not to have more than 200mg of caffeine over the course of a day."

Product details are as follows: 1.5kg bags, batch code W110429 and best before March 2025.
