At least two people, a woman and a child, were killed and two others were injured after a speeding car hit them on Tuesday morning. The incident happened at National Highway 57 near Purwari Tola under the Phulparas police station in Madhubani district of Bihar. The car was said to be on its way to Madhepura from Patna.
The white SUV bearing number BR- 43E0005, had a legible plate ‘DM-Madhepura’ fixed on the car. Eyewitnesses said the speeding car first hit a woman and then her child and after that it dashed against two labourers working on maintenance work on one flank of the road. The woman and the child died on the spot, while two injured persons were admitted to the Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital.
District Magistrate (DM) of Madhepura Vijay Prakash Meena could not be contacted on phone.
The deceased woman was identified as Gudia Devi, 28 and her seven-year-old daughter Aarti Kumari. The injured laborers have been identified as Ashok Singh and Raju Singh.
It is not clear whether the DM was inside the car or not. However, after the accident the villagers at the site while speaking to presspersons alleged that the DM along with a bodyguard and the driver was in the car but fled from the spot on a motorcycle. Later, the Madhubani district administration removed the car from the spot.
Meanwhile, the Madhubani Superintendent of Police, Sushil Kumar, said, “Locals had blocked the NH-57 for some time in the morning protesting the accident but the road was later cleared. An FIR will be lodged in connection with the accident and action will be taken against the guilty”.
