Three-hour flights from UK to USA as airline buys 20 supersonic jets

A fleet of supersonic jets is to carry passengers between the UK and USA at Mach 1.7 - 1,300mph - in a little over three hours. American Airlines this week put in an order for 20 Boom Supersonic Overture aircraft, nicknamed Son of Concorde, with an option to buy another 20.

The planes are expected to be in service by 2029 ferrying passengers between the UK and USA as well as on US internal flights such as LA to Hawaii. Each plane can carry up to 80 passengers and travels twice as fast as an average commercial plane.

That would mean a trip from London to New York in 3.5hours, reports The Telegraph.
