Three sheriff’s deputies were shot on Wednesday while responding to a report of threats at a home in the Lost Lake community near Dixon, Illinois. Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle confirmed that the deputies were called to the scene after receiving information that an individual inside the residence was threatening harm to themselves or others. The suspect involved in the incident was also wounded during the altercation.
The authorities were alerted to the situation by a family member who contacted the police around 8:30 a.m. Negotiators attempted to establish communication with the individual inside the home before deciding to enter the premises shortly before noon. Upon entering the house, the deputies came under fire from inside the residence.
Sheriff VanVickle assured the public that all individuals injured in the incident are currently in good condition. Three people, including the suspect, were transported to Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital in Dixon. Two of them have been treated and released, while the condition of the third person remains undisclosed.
The Illinois State Police will be leading the investigation into the shooting. The agency has yet to provide any additional details regarding the ongoing inquiry. Aerial footage captured by local media showed law enforcement vehicles and personnel stationed throughout the neighborhood, with minimal activity visible at the scene.
Lost Lake, where the incident took place, is described as a 'country style community' with approximately 700 property owners. Situated in an unincorporated area near Dixon, Franklin Grove, and Oregon, Lost Lake is located about 100 miles west of Chicago.
