Three people have died following a horror crash on the A9 this morning. We told how emergency services raced to Slochd Summit in the Highlands after the alarm was raised at around 11.33am.
Police previously revealed four people had been rushed to hospital following the accident. Officers have now confirmed the tragic news that three people have died.
Cops say their enquiries into establishing the full circumstances surrounding the accident remain ongoing. The road is currently closed and diversions are in place.
Earlier today multiple police vehicles and crews from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) attended the scene of the collision. Three fire appliances were sent along with specialist resources as images showed smoke from the vehicles billow into the air.
Five ambulances, three air ambulances and a Prehospital Immediate Care and Trauma team were also present at the time.
A spokesperson for the force said: "Police Scotland can confirm that three people have died following a road crash on the A9 at Slochd Summit on Tuesday, July 5.
"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the collision. The road is currently closed and diversions are in place.
