Three Mobile customers to be hit by huge price hike that could TRIPLE bills next month

Thousands of Three Mobile pay-as-you-go users will be hit by price hikes from next month that could triple the cost of their bills.

The mobile network is increasing the price of its calls, texts and data for users who top-up their phones from July 12.

Three will hike the price of calls from 10p a minute to 35p a minute, and texts from 10p to 15p.

Data is set double in price and will soon cost 10p per MB.

The price changes will affect customers on a “traditional package” where you top-up your phone with credit.

The higher prices will also apply when using your plan abroad in Three “Go Roam” destinations.

Those on a bundle package, where you pay in advance for a bundle of minutes, texts and data, are unaffected by the changes.

Three told MoneySavingExpert, which first reported the price hikes, that it has roughly 1.6million pay-as-you-go customers in total, meaning at least thousands are likely to be affected.

It said that everyone impacted has either been contacted or will be.

If you’re not happy with the price increases, but want to stay with Three, you could see if you’d benefit from one of its bundles.

It all depends on how much you currently use your phone.

Three prices for a pay-as-you-go bundle start from £10 a month for unlimited minutes and texts and 10GB of data.

If you're not fussed about sticking with Three, it can cost as little as 1p for each minute, text and MB of data you use with 1pMobile , which piggybacks off EE.

However, you do have to top up at least £10 every four months in order to keep your SIM active.

A Three spokesperson said: “Like many mobile providers, we have to review and revise our pricing.

"From 12 July 2022 we will be increasing the prices of calls, texts and data, which will affect Pay As You Go customers who choose not to purchase a bundle.

"Our new rates still remain competitive across the market.

“We have a range of Data Packs or Add-Ons available for Pay As You Go customers starting from £10 per month, all of which include unlimited minutes and texts as well as generous data allowances.

“We continue to focus on improving customer experience and deliver better value on our new Pay As You Go services, giving customers access to even more competitive deals and 5G at no extra cost.

“We are investing over £2 billion in the UK’s fastest 5G network to ensure we have a strong 4G and 5G network, capable of delivering better connectivity, every day, for every customer.

“We will be contacting these customers from 1 June 2022 onwards, and this change will be introduced from 12 July 2022.”
