Three Chinese nationals have been arrested in Phop Phra district of Tak province after they allegedly attempted to rob a local resident and damaged a police patrol vehicle while trying to evade capture following their escape from Myanmar.
Officers from Phop Phra police station took three Chinese men, identified as Yang Luta, 28, Feng Zhengdao, 31, and Hu Pan, 32, into custody, Thai media reported on Friday.
They were accused of damaging a police patrol vehicle and attempting to steal a motorcycle from a local resident along the road between Ban Sap Anan and Ban Phadi in tambon Ruam Thai Phatthana of this border northern district.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening when the suspects allegedly used wooden sticks and stones to smash the windows of a police patrol vehicle, causing significant damage.
Local village leaders and police officers were alerted and quickly responded, leading to the eventual arrest of the three men after a pursuit.
During questioning, the three men claimed they had been deceived into working in an area of Myanmar controlled by the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA).
After realising they had been misled, they allegedly escaped across the border into Thailand through Phop Phra district.
Police said the suspects admitted they had no money and were attempting to find a way to travel to Mae Sot district.
Authorities are conducting an investigation and pursuing legal action. The Chinese nationals have been charged with illegally entering the country.
