Three Boys, 19.3 Pounds, and Full Term, in a Birth That Was Not the World Record Some Reports Claimed

Three boys delivered full-term at a Los Angeles hospital weighed a combined 19.3 pounds, a figure well outside what obstetric teams typically see in a triplet birth. Elio, Elias, and Enzo were born to Nyla Craft and Marco Bernal at Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical Center on August 18, which happened to be their father's birthday.

The hospital described the pregnancy and delivery as especially notable, citing four elements together: the triplets were conceived naturally, all three are boys, all three were born full term without complications, and each weighed more than six pounds. Kaiser said more than a dozen doctors and nurses across multiple specialties were involved in the delivery and in caring for their mother, calling it a remarkably healthy start for triplets. The triplets join two older siblings, leaving the family with five children under age five.
