The Premier League has had another dramatic transfer window, but rather than consign it to the past and get on with the season at hand, we’re addressing one burning question: In 30 years of Premier League football, who is the greatest transfer of all time?
As part of our special award to celebrate the Premier League’s anniversary, Arsenal have three nominations out of the 30 in Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Vieira.
Dennis Bergkamp was Bruce Rioch’s first signing as manager and possibly the only positive moment in his tenure. At £7.5million, Rioch broke Arsenal’s previous record by £5m and introduced the Gunners to the man whose two goal-of-the-season winners are still judged as two of the best strikes in Premier League history.

Despite doubts over his talent, Arsene Wenger clearly saw something in Thierry Henry that others didn’t - and he turned the leggy winger into one of the best strikers in the world. Henry remains the club’s top Premier League scorer (175 goals), their all-time top scorer (228 goals) and delivered some magical memories as well as two League titles to earn himself a statue outside the Emirates Stadium.
There aren’t many men who were able to go toe-to-toe with Roy Keane and if there is any player that typifies the Premier League rivalry of that era, it’s Patrick Vieira. Constantly combative yet full of flair, his like had never been seen in the Premier League before and he left his mark on it; much like he left his bootprint on his opponents.
But which Arsenal legend ranks highest for you... and how do they measure up against the best of the rest? Have your say in our Best Premier League Transfers Ever poll below.
