Three arrested on suspicion of money laundering after cops swoop on Audi RS at petrol station

Three men have been arrested after police found tens of thousands of pounds when they did a spot check on a top of the range Audi at a petrol station.

Officers stopped a grey Audi RS6 on the forecourt of the Shell station in Hawthorn Street, Wilmslow.

Officers from Cheshire Roads and Crime Unit swooped at 11.20pm on Tuesday.

Cheshire Constabulary say that during a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers discovered tens of thousands of pounds worth of cash and five high value watches.

The three occupants of the vehicle were spoken to at the scene and arrested on suspicion of money laundering.

The trio, a 19-year-old from Alderley Edge; a 40-year-old from Bradford; and a 36-year-old from Liversedge, all remain in police custody where they are assisting officers with their enquiries.

Detective Inspector John O’Driscoll of the Eastern Crime Hub, said: “This was a significant seizure and I would like to thank all of the officers who were involved in the stop check.

“Enquiries in relation to the discovery are ongoing and we are doing all we can to establish where the money and watches have come from.”
