This weekend also saw the final episode of Tommy Tiernan.
The comedian’s last episode of his chat show saw an average 375,000 viewers – 13,000 more viewers than the previous week.
A spokesman for RTE said: “The Tommy Tiernan Show on Saturday, 25th March had an average audience of 375,000 viewers (Live Plus VOSDAL) on RTÉ One (inc RTÉ One +1) and a 36% share. To date the series has had 661,000 streams on RTÉ Player.”
When asked if Tommy’s chat show would return next year, the spokesman added: “Programming for 2024 will be announced later in the year.”
The Tommy Tiernan Show went out with a bang last weekend, with the stand-up comedian causing a stir on social media with his interview with WWE superstar Becky Lynch and welcoming singing legend Dolores Keane on for a heartfelt chat about loneliness and alcoholism. Doug Allan also joined the show, which was closed out by a musical performance from The Murder Capital.
Fans of Tommy will have to buy tickets for one of his stand-up gigs if they are to fill their Tiernan fix over the coming months. As well as wrapping the latest series of his chat show, the 53-year-old also announced he is taking a break from his hit podcast to focus on his upcoming comedy dates.
RTE has, however, announced what shows it will air to fill the chat show void.
After the Nine O'Clock news on RTE One on Saturday night will be Mission: Impossible - Fallout, the sixth instalment in the spy action franchise, which will take viewers up to midnight.
