Thousands of pounds have been raised in memory of tragic Scots teenager Lennix Hughes after she passed away suddenly in Dundee at the weekend. The 16-year-old was rushed to Ninewells Hospital in the early hours of Saturday, March 4, after falling ill at a property in the Dudhope Gardens area of the city.
Despite the best efforts of medics, the 16-year-old was pronounced dead a short time later. A police investigation into the circumstances of her death, which is being treated as ‘unexplained’, remains ongoing.
A GoFundMe page was launched on Monday morning by a family friend with more than £8500 raised within hours of it going live. Family friend Gill Young urged people to donate what they could in memory of the “loving, kind, funny bairn who will be missed by all”.
In a statement on the page, she added: “It would be nice to have something in her memory as she loved to help and care when needed.” Heartfelt tributes continue to pour in for the popular teenager, whose passing was confirmed by a relative in a moving social media post.
They wrote: “Writing this with the most shattered of hearts, our beautiful baby sadly passed away on the morning of Saturday the 4th of March her precious little heart couldn’t fight any longer. We are absolutely broken and can't imagine this life without her by our sides.
“Everyone that knows Lennix will agree she is the most caring soul with the biggest smile that could light up any room she walked in. The most affectionate girl with a fiery personality.
“The girl who always made us laugh no matter how much we didn’t want to and a hug from her could fix anything in an instant. The baby of the family who also loved being treated like a baby.
“We are the luckiest people on this earth to have had 16 amazing years with her. She is without a doubt the type of person you don’t come by twice in this life. Lennix you were just far too beautiful for this horrible world.
“We really appreciate each and every heartfelt message from all of you but right now we are just trying to come to terms with this as a family. Goodnight my precious little lamb.”
Police Scotland have confirmed their investigation continues. A force spokeswoman said: “Around 5am on Saturday we were made aware of a 16-year-girl being unwell at a property in the Dudhope Gardens area of Dundee.
“Emergency services attended and she was taken by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
“The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing. A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
