Thousands of starfish wash up on Welsh beach after Storm Eunice

Thousands of starfish have been spotted washed up on a beach in Pembrokeshire in the aftermath of Storm Eunice.

Piles of the stricken sea creatures were discovered by locals walking their dog along Wisemans Bridge, a rocky stretch of coastline near Tenby this morning (Saturday, February 19).

The phenomenon is thought to have resulted from the battering the southwest of Wales received by recent storms Dudley and Eunice which have lashed the country during the last few days.

Bringing with it a rare red weather warning from the Met Office, the latter made headlines after causing widespread damage and disruption.

Said to have been the worst in almost three decades Eunice was hailed as posing a "significant danger to life."

As a result, drastic measures were taken to ensure public safety, with stay at home guidance issued, mountain road closures and flod warnings announced and all train travel suspended for the day.

Schools were also closed over safety fears.

The force of the storm soon became clear as two lorries were blown over on the M4, fences were sent flying, cars crushed by fallen trees and roofs ripped off.

Clean-up operations are today underway although an amber weather warning remains in place for much of the country, with forecasts of strong winds and heavy rain in some places.

The conditions are expected to last until Monday night.
