Thousands of pounds in ill-gotten cash is set to be seized from drug dealers and given to a women's charity.
Since the start of last year, Liverpool Crown Court has handed over monies taken from criminals to a charity of the month as part of Operation Payback. For April, this nominated good cause will be Blackburne House - a "women's organisation set up to support the education of women", including "the most vulnerable".
Based on Hope Street in Liverpool city centre, its range of activities include running a nursery, bistro and wellness centre. Chief executive Andrea Rushton said: "All our contributions enable us to deliver outstanding educational and economic opportunities for women from across the city, who view Blackburne House as a safe place to access learning and personal development.

"These funds will be used to support our most recent activities, the wellness centre. This service began due to increased incidences of domestic abuse and declines in mental health during the pandemic.
"The funds will allow us to provide counselling sessions for women and allow them to remain free at the point of access. It will contribute to reducing waiting times for interventions and therefore prevent women falling into more serious mental health declines."
March's charity of the month, volunteer-run Wallasey Amateur Boxing Club, received around £9,000 through the scheme. These funds will go towards a project aimed at steering young people away from potential involvement with crime, including county lines drugs gangs, from its base in Leasowe, Wirral.
