Thousands donated to help Bristol rapper TK's young family

Hundreds of people have donated thousands of pounds to help the partner and unborn baby of Bristol rapper Takayo Nembhard, who was killed in London after the Notting Hill Carnival on Monday.

The fundraiser has been set up by Chris Patrick, the manager of Takayo - who was better known as rapper TKorStretch.

The 21-year-old was stabbed an hour after the end of the carnival in London, and the Met Police have launched a murder investigation.

Tributes have been flooding in for Takayo, who was on the cusp of breaking a major music career and had big label interest.

But his death has devastated his friends and family - his parents took the trip from Bristol to west London to lay flowers at the scene of his murder near Ladbroke Grove station today, Friday, four days after he was attacked.

The talented 21-year-old’s partner, Oshian Edwards, paid tribute to him earlier this week, pledging to remind their baby son about his father as he grows up.

Within hours of the fundraiser being set up, it had topped £6,000 in donations, with Mr Patrick, TKorStretch’s manager, pledging that all the money raised will go to Takayo’s father Vincent, to help Oshian and their baby.

Mr Patrick told Bristol Live that TK’s murder had not yet sunk in. “I’ve experienced the deaths of people close to me in family before, but this is of a whole different magnitude for everyone involved, his family, his friends. You go through daily emotions and it’s so hard. Even writing the words for the GoFundMe page took me a couple of days and when I read it back, I broke down with uncontrollable tears,” he said.

Mr Patrick said that, as a father, he couldn’t imagine the pain that Takayo’s parents are going through, and for Oshian, who is heavily pregnant with his son.

“Little TK will never have the opportunity to know his father, and Takayo will tragically never meet his little baby boy,” he said.

“Writing this breaks my heart, as nothing is more beautiful than seeing your first child grace the world with his or her first muted cry of hello. This moment has been taken from Takayo.

“Fundraising is not ordinarily something we do in the black community, but I do this because TK’s talent was endless and I can tell you guys he was close to greatness! He had three albums ready to go, and the powers that be were keenly watching. His turn was coming!

“So whatever we raise, will go to his family to help raise his child and help Oshian through what will be a very difficult process of raising a child on her own. As I have previously stated, Takayo came to London from Bristol, to simply have a good time at the London carnival with his family and friends with the same enthusiasm as the two million people who attended, and this is the end result.

“The effect of his murder will last a life time. His mother, father, siblings, family and friends are inconsolable,” he added.
