Thorn Athletic boss Barry McLaughlin is confident his cup shock troops can pull off a domestic derby day win against St Peter’s.
The Johnstone club head into tomorrow afternoon’s Fourth Division clash on the back of a hugely impressive 4-1 WoSFL Cup away win against Second Division side St Anthony’s.
Paisley side St Peter’s have enjoyed a great start to the campaign themselves, currently sitting third in the table.
McLaughlin hopes his side can avenge their opening day defeat to their neighbours when they face off at New Tinto Park.
The Thorn boss said: “We go into the St Peter’s game on the back of another great result against a team a few divisions above us.
“We were 4-1 up at half-time, with Euan Rodger netting a hat-trick of free-kicks and Niall Cannon scoring as well.
“The boys saw the game out brilliantly in the second half and the St Anthony’s boys admitted after the game it was a well-deserved win for us.
“It’s been great experience for the boys and it’s another notch on their belt. Winning is a good habit to get into and we’ve played four teams from leagues above us now this season and played well in every game.
“A lot of Fourth Division teams have been picking up strong results against teams from above which says a lot about the strength of the league.
“St Peter’s beat us 1-0 in the first game of the season and they’re doing really well at the moment.
“It’s a wee local derby which gives the game an edge too. They’re well drilled but we’re going into every game with our chests puffed out now.
“It should be a really good match.”
In the WoSFL Premier Division Arthurlie welcome Beith Juniors to Dunterlie Park tomorrow afternoon looking to continue their progress up the table.
Johnstone Burgh take on Rossvale tonight in the South Challenge Cup, while Renfrew take on Cumnock Juniors at New Western Park in the same competition tomorrow.
Neilston face a daunting trip to Beechwood Park to take on top flight side Auchinleck Talbot, also in the South Challenge Cup, with Paisley side Glenvale travelling south to face Threave Rovers at Meadow Park in more Fourth Division action.
