Former Liverpool star Dietmar Hamann has admitted that Kai Havertz could trouble his former side in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.
Havertz has proven himself to be a big game player at Stamford Bridge, scoring in both the Champions League and Club World Cup finals. Chelsea are looking to win another major honour at the weekend, and the German will be hoping to be the difference maker once again.
Even though Hamann thinks that Havertz is yet to reach his full potential, he certainly thinks the forward is capable of having an impact on the final.
Speaking in an interview with Genting Casino, he said: "The one player who’s done well and of course scored in the Champions League final is Kai Havertz, but I still think he’s only done half of what he’s capable of doing because I think he’s such a good player.
"Sometimes I feel he’s held back, or he doesn’t know how good he is, he’s an outstanding player. He’s obviously a different type of player to Gerrard, but he’s a player who’s quick, not as quick as Stevie, but he’s very smart with his runs."
Hamann has even suggested that it will be better for Thomas Tuchel to field Havertz above £97.5million man Romelu Lukaku who has struggled for form since his return to Stamford Bridge.
"He’s [Havertz] a player who can decide a game in a flash. [Romelu] Lukaku seems to be a bit off form at the moment, I think [Virgil] van Dijk and whoever plays, they will be able to handle him.
"You’re looking at the likes of Havertz, [Hakim] Ziyech, [Mason] Mount, they’ve got some good players.
"Timo Werner doesn’t play any role whatsoever, and that’s what I mean, they don’t seem to have the options Liverpool have got or the manager doesn’t trust them, and I think they could be a problem for Chelsea on Sunday."
