Thomas Tuchel's fresh Brentford revelation tempts Chelsea fate ahead of Real Madrid clash

"After so many wins and so many good results, I will now refuse to make a drama out of it. Why should we?" Thomas Tuchel was his usually measured self after watching his team lose 4-1 to Brentford on Saturday. It was a result few saw coming and rocked a recently confident Chelsea who was expected to claim maximum points.

"Brentford made a lot of the ten minutes we gave them. After the third goal, we had a disallowed goal, a pressing situation against the goalkeeper, and another big chance from Kai Havertz. We missed all three of them and there was a feeling that it wasn't our day. So it's a mixture of everything."

The post-mortem of the afternoon has led to fingers being pointed in many different directions, but the defiance from some Chelsea fans proves that the gloom of this defeat will not last long.

As popular account Chelsea Youth noted on Sunday morning, a 2021 humiliation preceded one of the greatest nights in the club's entire history. After being battered 5-2 by an already doomed West Brom on the same weekend, Tuchel's squad responded by beating Porto 2-0 in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinal.

Chelsea would also go on to beat Crystal Palace 4-1 in one of the Blues' best-attacking displays before securing their place in the Champions League quarterfinal three days later. You add in the 1-0 win over Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final and the response to the West Brom collapse could not have been much stronger.

As also noted by another Chelsea account Mxdiano, Tuchel has only lost once in the last 27 games, has made it to the latter stages of every single competition and his two first-choice fullbacks out injured for months in Reece James and Ben Chilwell.

Given all of the off-pitch chaos surrounding Chelsea over the past month, Chelsea's beloved coach and players have mostly remained focused. Winning their last five league games, progressing to the last eight of the Champions League and reaching another FA Cup semi-final.

Chelsea fans shared belief in Tuchel will not dwindle after Brentford and the confidence heading into Wednesday's clash with Real Madrid will hopefully be rewarded with a repeat of 2021, although Tuchel is not relying on fate to get back on track.

"I would not rely on it being destiny or it happens. We will dig in and try to find out why it was like this. There are some reasons which we can put on us and we will analyse and digest it. There is no other It's hard to take because it's very unusual for us what happened today. Then we will refocus on Monday."
