Thomas Tuchel's first words as Chelsea boss showed he was aware of risk amid ruthless sackings

Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea reign lasted just 19 months. In that period there was a Champions League triumph, a Club World Cup win, a UEFA Super Cup victory, two FA Cup finals and a Carabao Cup final - but not even that was enough to stop his spell at Stamford Bridge being cut short.

When appointed last January, Tuchel became Chelsea's ninth permanent manager since 2010 - with Jose Mourinho's two-and-a-half year stint the longest of any Blues boss in that period. In sacking Tuchel, Todd Boehly has shown a similar ruthless streak what Roman Abramovich consistently demonstrated during his time at Chelsea.

By his own admission, Tuchel was fully aware of Chelsea's history with managers, but he still took the risk. Managing in the Premier League at a club capable of winning trophies was an opportunity he couldn't turn down. He was not fazed by the cut-throat environment of managing Chelsea - it was something he relished.

"Yes and no," replied Tuchel when asked in his first ever press-conference if he was concerned about Chelsea's relentless approach when it comes to hiring and firing managers.

"I am absolutely grateful that I can work on this level. If you sign for Chelsea, you sign in for the hunger of titles, for being absolutely competitive in every competition you play.

"I am totally aware of that [the club's reputation], but it does not scare me. We have big ambitions, myself I have the biggest ambitions and I am very excited about the mixture of the team and the structure of the club.

"I am absolutely aware that at some point everybody expects results."
