Not a day has passed this summer without Thomas Tuchel speaking with new Chelsea co-owner and interim sporting director Todd Boehly. And the subject of their discussions tends to be the same: transfers.
Together, Boehly and Tuchel are trying to build a Chelsea squad capable of challenging Man City and Liverpool for the Premier League title this season. That is no easy feat, and there is much still to be done in the weeks ahead. "We are in a very intense and close relationship to get the signings done and make the team better," says Tuchel.
"It [overseeing transfers] is not my favourite thing to do – and in the long run, the focus has to be on coaching because it is why I am here. But at the moment, of course, my help is needed and wanted. It is necessary that I step up and take that responsibility."
