Thomas Tuchel reveals Djed Spence reaction after England clips go viral

Thomas Tuchel has responded to the clip that shows him shouting at Djed Spence during England’s goalless draw with Ghana.

The England head coach was seen yelling at the left-back during the match in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

Tuchel shouted: “Djed, Djed, Djed, give and go” at Spence, who was earning his first start of the tournament following a substitute appearance in the opening game against Croatia.

It followed a training session on Saturday in Kansas City in which Tuchel was again seen shouting at Spence.

On that occasion, he yelled at the Tottenham defender during a drill, saying: “Djed, switch on.”

Now, Tuchel has given his thoughts on whether he has been pleased with the performances of the 25-year-old full-back.

“Defensively, yes, but I wanted him to be more engaged in the attacking phase,” Tuchel said after the Ghana draw.

“To start our attacks a bit wider and have more runs through the last line, but overall it was his first start for England in a major tournament and I always put it in to perspective.”

“I have to scream because nobody hears me otherwise,” Tuchel explained.

“It’s all good with Djed. We brought on [Nico] O’Reilly and it almost paid off with a header and a big chance for Harry [Kane].”
