It seems silly to still wonder what a successful season would be for Chelsea given they have lifted two trophies this term. Thomas Tuchel has manged to guide the Blues to both the UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup in the aftermarth of the 2020/21 Champions League win.
Being the Champions of Europe perhaps places an expectation that those next two trophies follow, but they do remain symbols of success. Tight games and difficult moments were overcome to complete the achievements, and now Chelsea will establish the value they truly have with a Champions League exit at the hands of Real Madrid, no Premier League title to win and a runners-up medal in the Carabao Cup.
An FA Cup semi-final awaits the Blues at the weekend, where they take on Crystal Palace at Wembley. Tuchel's final chance to lift another trophy before the end of the season. The outcome in that competition may be the condition that the team is truly judged on.
