Thomas Tuchel could lose two strikers in one window with Timo Werner reportedly attracting interest from Germany.
The forward has been at Chelsea for two years, but he's been unable to rediscover the form he showed in the Bundesliga. As a result the Blues added Romelu Lukaku last summer, but he too struggled to find the net and has since left for Inter Milan.
Werner could now follow him out the door with Sky Germany reporting that RB Leipzig are keen on bringing the player back to his homeland. The German has only scored 23 times for the Blues and is far from a guaranteed starter under Tuchel.
Raheem Sterling has moved to Stamford Bridge this summer to add more competition and Werner could opt to leave in search of regular minutes. The Chelsea boss was more than happy to deploy a false 9 system last term, but seeing his two strikers depart would be a blow and call into question some of his methods.
Leipzig will also not be paying the £49m they received for Werner back in 2020. It means Chelsea would have to accept a loss, much like they have with Lukaku, who cost them a club-record £97.5m. Tuchel recently poured water on reports Werner was looking to leave the club.
He said: "I don’t think so. I don’t know about it, Timo has not talked to me about it. In the moment I think he wants to make his way at Chelsea. He has still to prove a point."
Have you say! Should Werner look to leave Chelsea this summer? Let us know here.
Werner has previously hinted that he needs more minutes to ensure his place in the German World Cup squad this winter: "It is clear I want to play more and I should play more to first be in good shape for the World Cup and also, to have a chance to play at the World Cup."
Tuchel responded to those claims, insisting he should be happy in west London. He said: "I’m surprised, I would be very happy as a young guy having a contract at Chelsea Football Club. I would be one of the happiest people on the planet.”
Chelsea have endured an indifferent pre-season, recently conceding four as they were hammered by Arsenal. It led to a scathing assessment from Tuchel, who is concerned ahead of the new season. He is still calling for new recruits as the Blues look to improve on their third-place finish last season having all lost in both domestic cup finals.
