Thomas Tuchel could make shock Chelsea decision after Christian Pulisic USA hat-trick

Christian Pulisic scored a superb hat-trick for USA in their World Cup qualifier win over Panama in the early hours of Monday morning. The 23-year-old has now scored four goals in as many games for club and country.

Pulisic was on the scoresheet for Chelsea in their UEFA Champions League round of 16 second-leg win against Lille earlier in the month with a fantastic low finish in an impressive performance. The American was then handed a start three days later in the FA Cup quarter-final win against Middlesbrough.

The Blues winger is slowly cementing a spot into Thomas Tuchel's first-team plans at Stamford Bridge as we enter the business end of the season. However, he could be handed a rest on Saturday afternoon against Brentford.

Chelsea welcome the Bees to Stamford Bridge just a few days before their pivotal Champions League quarter-final first-leg against Real Madrid on Wednesday. Tuchel will be confident he can rotate his side for the home match against 15th-placed Brentford and ensure some of his key players are fit and ready for the clash with Los Blancos in midweek.

This could open the door for Timo Werner to be handed a rare Premier League start, with Tuchel perhaps wanting to put Pulisic on the bench. Werner has made just eight starts in the Premier League this term for Chelsea, but has been used from the start against Norwich City and Newcastle United in their past two league matches.

The German forward, like Pulisic, has enjoyed a strong international break so far, with the former RB Leipzig man scoring in his country's 2-0 win against Israel on Saturday. Chelsea supporters will be desperate to see this sort of form for Werner between now and the end of the season - with just one Premier League goal to his name this term.

Speaking after Germany's win against Israel at the weekend, the 26-year-old hinted that playing with his international team-mates perhaps suits him more than at club level. He said: "I'm a striker and always want to score.

"Things aren't going the way I'd like at Chelsea, so it's all the better that things are going well here under Hansi Flick. I really enjoy playing football, no matter where I'm playing.

"There are differences in the style of play between football at Chelsea and here. Maybe the one at the national team suits me better. Here, I always have scoring chances, I can score goals. I feel very comfortable here."

Of course, Tuchel still has the likes of Mason Mount, Hakim Ziyech, Romelu Lukaku and Kai Havertz to choose from in the forward areas against Brentford. With the crucial clash with Real Madrid coming up, though, Pulisic could be given a rest with Werner benefitting from his possible absence at the weekend.
