Thomas Tuchel has ruled Mason Mount out of Chelsea's matches against Crystal Palace and Lille and suggested the club will push to see him return in time for the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool.
The 23-year-old midfielder was substituted in the first half of the Blues' Club World Cup Final win over Palmeiras after some discomfort following a collision.
Mount picked up the injury early in the match when an opposition player fell onto his ankle and caused a ligament issue with the immediate reaction, forcing Tuchel into the decision to bring on Christian Pulisic.
The Chelsea star was seen to visibly hop and hobble during celebrations and ultimately left the stadium with his right ankle bandages and making use of crutches.
Tuchel said in his pre-match press conference: "We will push for the league cup final. He has Injured ligaments in the very first minute of the final unfortunately. The Champions League seems to be very, very close and we'll try hard for the cup final."
Chelsea face Crystal Palace and then Lille before taking on Liverpool in the Carabao Cup Final at Wembley.
Reece James and Ben Chilwell are the other Chelsea players to remain out of action for the trip to Selhurst Park with Ruben Loftus-Cheek having returned to training this week.
James is expected to return to team training next week, after seeing a set-back in his rehabilitation ahead of the Club World Cup, with Tuchel reluctant to set a date when he will be available for selection.
Loftus-Cheek on the other hand is available for selection against the Eagles.
Tuchel said: "He had issue with his Achilles. Not a big injury but painful. It held him back from not being on the pitch. Since we've come back, he's been very strong and feels free. He is available for the game tomorrow."
