Thomas Partey injury: Arsenal midfielder forced to sit out of Ghana’s draw with Angola

Thomas Partey sat out as Ghana came from behind to draw with Angola in Monday night’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Arsenal midfielder has played a prominent part in Mikel Arteta’s first-team this season as the Gunners prepare for the final stretch of the campaign.

They lead Premier League champions Manchester City by five points and are back in action at home to Leeds on Sunday.

Partey has already missed five League games through injury this season, most recently sitting out the loss to Manchester City and win over Aston Villa in February with a thigh problem.

Arsenal moved to sign Jorginho from Chelsea during the January transfer window as Arteta bolstered his midfield options.

Brighton’s Moises Caicedo was the club’s leading target but the Gunners failed in a number of bids and the Ecuador international has since signed a long-term contract.

Black Stars boss Chris Hughton provided an update on Partey, who was left on the bench, after Ghana’s draw in Luanda.

"Thomas has some small issues,” he said.

“We felt it was too big of a risk to start him.”
