Thomas Frank hints at Ivan Toney return to Brentford fold vs Liverpool in update on transfer future

Ivan Toney's future at Brentford remains "up in the air", according to manager Thomas Frank.

The England striker was omitted from the squad for last weekend's Premier League opener against Crystal Palace because of transfer interest and has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli.

Frank declined to provide an update on negotiations with one week left in the transfer window and insists Toney could be involved in Sunday's trip to Liverpool.

When asked if the 28-year-old will be in action at Anfield, Frank replied: "Who knows? Let's see on Sunday what will happen.

"Ivan trained the whole week. Trained with good attitude in every aspect. He could be involved, he could not be involved.

"He could be here after the 30th and he could not be here. Basically everything is up in the air. I've said the whole time that if he's here I'm very happy, if he's not here then I'm happy on his behalf."

While Toney might be on his way out of Brentford, Frank hailed the arrival of Sepp van den Berg from Liverpool in a deal worth up to £25million as evidence that the club has pulling power.

Van den Berg is reported to have turned down several offers, including one from German champions Bayer Leverkusen, in favour of moving to west London.

"Very, very happy that we managed to sign Sepp van den Berg. He's a great player with even bigger potential," Frank said.

"He's a good age for a young centre back who has played quite a significant amount of games in the Championship and Bundesliga. I heard the rumours about Leverkusen and if that's true then that's a statement that players want to come to us over other top clubs.

"We know that we are interesting because we have a fantastic environment, we're a good team and a good club. And we are growing. I'm very happy that he wanted to join the ride and the journey and I look forward to having him in the squad."
