Thomas Frank has already made Romeo Beckham stance clear after 'unbelievable' Brentford debut

Romeo Beckham impressed on his debut in English football after starring for Brentford B in an appearance described by boss Neil MacFarlane as 'unbelievable'.

The 20-year-old son of Manchester United and England legend David has long been tipped to forge a decent career in football, where he started making tracks on a potential career in the game when he was signed up to Arsenal's London Colney academy at the age of just 12.

He was released 12 months later and a five year absence from football followed, though in 2020 he stated that he wished to get back into the professional setup, joining the youth academy at Inter Miami - the MLS club part-owned by his father.

He subsequently signed for Fort Lauderdale CF - Miami's reserve team - in September 2021, making his debut later that month, before appearing for Miami in a pre-season friendly this time last year. Spreading his wings, Beckham joined Brentford B on a six-month loan on Friday and made his debut earlier this week in the London Senior Cup.

MacFarlane waxed lyrical about his performance. “Romeo really drove us forward in the wing back position," MacFarlane boasted.

“He created some really good moments for us with some terrific deliveries. He had an opportunity to score as well and I was thrilled with him and the group in general for keeping on the front foot. We never gave up and we got through.

"Our subs made an unbelievable impact and that’s what we want, everyone pushing each other and keep helping the group move forward because we had a brilliant 2022 and we just want to keep getting better in the new year."

Brentford manager Thomas Frank had previously opened the door to a potential promotion to the first team should his impressive form continue.

“Yeah, I've seen him [Beckham]. I think he's an interesting player. We hope, of course, like a lot of others that he can make it to the first team. Yeah, [he is] promising. Anyone who has got a contract here - be it a permanent deal or loan deal - there is always the opportunity to stay, of course.”
