This ‘Wobbly’ Plate Trend Brings So Much Character When They're Stacked on Your Kitchen Shelves

A stack of organically shaped plates on a kitchen side.

Kitchenware on display is a lovely way to style open shelving and to make your kitchen feel warm and inviting rather than too pristine. Naturally, there are things we want to live on our shelves for ease and practicality, but if they are going to be on show, it’s important that the items you choose speak the same language as the rest of your kitchen design.

It can be quite jarring to step into a beautifully designed kitchen for your plates, then, to tell a different design story. A trend I’m enjoying right now as an interior stylist is what I call ‘wobbly’ dinnerware. It’s such an easy way to bring organic shapes and texture to your kitchen shelves without having to spend a fortune. Yes, they are functional for hosting guests and are sure to be the talking point of any tablescape, but they make just as much of a statement stacked on open shelving.

This is also a useful styling tip for adding height to your shelves. It’s always a good idea to play with varying heights for visual interest, and you can shop my pick of ‘wobbly’ plates below.

Give your kitchen shelves a makeover this season and style them up with a stack of chic 'wobbly' plates. In my opinion, their imperfect nature is what's so appealing, as they make you feel like you get a piece of homeware that's totally unique to you.
